Chauang-yen Monastery 2

This is the large Buddha statue at the Chauang-yen Monastery in Putnam County, NY, surrounded by 10,000 smaller praying Buddhas in the stands. Around the base are carvings of several bodhisattvas, while the inside ring where the Buddhas sit is a depiction of the Pure Land, while the outside depicts monks walking through China and interacting with nature.

Due to construction we could not get closer to the statue.

This temple is a Chinese Pure Land Buddhist monastery that houses the largest Buddha statue on the Western Hemisphere: 40 ft in height.

We visited this temple at the end of April for the Buddhism Class. (I tagged along from another class.) This was my second visit, I hope to go again during the summer.
